ToyFare Magazine —
Custom Figure Design & Editorial Contributions
Art Direction, Toy Design, Photography, Editorial Contributor
I contributed custom, one-of-a-kind action figure designs for ToyFare Magazine, creating commissioned pieces developed specifically for editorial features. The work centered on designing fictional or hypothetical figures readers wanted to see exist, translating ideas into fully realized physical objects built for photography and publication.
Initially featured in ToyFare’s Wish List! column, the response to the figures led to expanded editorial coverage, with multi-page features dedicated to original concepts I developed. In addition to the finished figures, I documented the design and fabrication process, contributing instructional content that demonstrated sculpting, molding, casting, and painting techniques used to create custom figures. The work bridged design, craftsmanship, and storytelling, offering readers insight into both the final object and the process behind it.
Beyond the magazine, the projects extended into live appearances at comic and sci-fi conventions, where I spoke about custom figure design and production. The examples shown represent a selection of illustration-driven, hands-on projects that combined conceptual design with physical making, reinforcing a practice rooted equally in imagination and execution.
